Executive Summary

The 7-inch Subsurface Controlled Surface Safety Valve (SCSSSV) is used in wells with high flow rates and larger production tubing. Its larger internal diameter allows easier passage of tools and reduces restrictions in the flow path. The valve is designed to shut the well in automatically if surface control is lost or equipment fails, isolating the wellbore to prevent uncontrolled flow. Its self-equalizing feature helps manage pressure changes smoothly during operation. This design supports safe well control in demanding production environments without significantly limiting flow.

Detailed Description

Available sizes: 2 3/8”, 2 7/8”, 3 1/2”, 4”, 4 1/2”, 5”, 5 1/2'” and 7”.

The 7-inch Subsurface Controlled Surface Safety Valve (SCSSSV) is a critical safety device designed to automatically shut in a well if uncontrolled flow occurs due to equipment failure or damage. It is installed in the upper part of the well to quickly isolate the producing zone and prevent uncontrolled release of fluids, ensuring well control in emergency situations.

This valve uses a flapper mechanism and is surface-controlled, meaning it can be operated from the surface. It features a self-equalizing design that reduces pressure differences across the valve during opening and closing, which improves reliability and extends valve life. The sealing surfaces are located outside the flow path when the valve is open, reducing wear and protecting key components from erosion.

Because the valve is wireline retrievable, it can be serviced or repaired without pulling the entire tubing string, minimizing downtime and intervention costs. It fits 7-inch tubing and is available with landing nipple seal bores of 5.750", 5.875", or 5.963". It can handle working pressures up to 10,000 psi and offers valve internal diameters of 3.38" and 3.50", allowing operators to balance safety and flow requirements effectively.
