The 5” SCSSSV provides reliable shut-in for larger tubing, supporting higher flow rates with easy wireline retrieval for maintenance.

Executive Summary

The 5” SCSSSV is a surface-controlled, wireline-retrievable subsurface safety valve engineered for wells with larger tubing and higher production volumes. It provides dependable emergency shut-in functionality through a flapper mechanism that closes upon loss of control pressure or equipment failure.

Designed to balance safety with flow efficiency, the valve allows operators to maintain well integrity without compromising output. Its retrievable design simplifies maintenance by enabling valve servicing without pulling the tubing, reducing intervention time and operational costs in high-capacity oil and gas wells.

Detailed Description

Available sizes: 2 3/8”, 2 7/8”, 3 1/2”, 4”, 4 1/2”, 5”, 5 1/2'” and 7”.

The 5" SCSSSV (Surface-Controlled Subsurface Safety Valve) is used to shut in a well if there\'s a sudden loss of control—such as equipment failure or surface damage. Installed in the upper wellbore, it acts as a critical safety barrier, closing automatically if surface control pressure is lost. This helps protect people, equipment, and the reservoir from uncontrolled flow.

This valve is designed for 5" (127 mm) tubing and fits a 4.125" landing nipple. It’s rated for working pressures up to 5,000 psi and has a 2.38" internal bore, making it well-suited for high-rate production wells. The valve includes a self-equalizing feature that helps reduce pressure differences across the flapper during reopening, supporting smoother restarts and lowering mechanical stress.

Because it’s wireline-retrievable, the internal components can be serviced or replaced without pulling the tubing—saving time and reducing intervention costs. The flapper is machined from solid bar stock for durability, and the sealing surfaces are positioned out of the flow path when open, helping extend the life of the valve by reducing wear.

This size is typically chosen when both high flow capacity and reliable emergency shut-in protection are required.
