Executive Summary
The 4 1/2" Surface-Controlled Subsurface Safety Valve (SCSSSV) is designed for wells requiring a balance between higher flow capacity and reliable emergency shut-in functionality. Installed in 4 1/2" production tubing, it uses a hydraulically actuated flapper to isolate the wellbore in the event of surface control failure or equipment damage.
The valve's wireline-retrievable design allows for servicing without pulling the tubing, reducing intervention time and cost. With a working pressure typically up to 5,000 psi and compatibility with standard landing nipples, the 4 1/2" SCSSSV is suited for both new developments and existing wells requiring dependable safety mechanisms.

Detailed Description
Available sizes: 2 3/8”, 2 7/8”, 3 1/2”, 4”, 4 1/2”, 5”, 5 1/2'” and 7”.
The 4 1/2" Surface-Controlled Subsurface Safety Valve (SCSSSV) is selected for wells that require dependable emergency shut-in capability while handling moderate to high flow rates. This size is appropriate when production demands a larger flow area to minimize pressure drop and maintain efficient fluid flow. It provides essential well control by automatically isolating the wellbore in cases of equipment failure or loss of surface control pressure, ensuring safety without compromising production efficiency.
This SCSSSV is designed for compatibility with 4 1/2" (114.3 mm) tubing and is available with landing nipple seal bores of 3.437", 3.688", or 3.813". It supports working pressures up to 5,000 psi and comes with internal valve bore options of 1.75", 1.87", and 2.12"—allowing operators to balance flow capacity with safety requirements.
The self-equalizing mechanism minimizes differential pressure across the valve during opening, improving control and reducing mechanical wear. With sealing surfaces located outside the flow path in the open position, the valve is less susceptible to erosion and damage during production.
Constructed with a robust flapper made from bar stock, the valve features a flapper-type mechanism that reliably closes to prevent uncontrolled flow. The valve is wireline retrievable, which allows for extraction and servicing of major components without removing the entire tubing string. This capability reduces intervention time and operational costs, contributing to overall well uptime and efficiency.
